AS PART OF OUR THREE-PART SERIES ON THE TOPIC OF APPRENTICESHIPS, WE HAVE INTERVIEWED THREE STUDENTS TO SHOW YOU HOW VARIED OUR POST-SCHOOL CAREER OPPORTUNITIES AT MARC O’ POLO CAN BE. LEAVING OFF ON DUAL STUDIES WITH OUR PREVIOUS ARTICLE, WE ARE NOW ACCOMPANYING EMELIE IN HER APPRENTICESHIP. SHE WILL EXPLAIN WHY SHE DECIDED TO EMBARK UPON AN APPRENTICESHIP AT MARC O’POLO, SHARE WHAT HER HIGHLIGHTS HAVE BEEN SO FAR, AND PROVIDE SOME WORDS OF ADVICE FOR PROSPECTIVE APPLICANTS.
WHY DID YOU APPLY FOR AN APPRENTICESHIP AT MARC O'POLO?
In the 11th grade, my classmates started talking about what they wanted to do after school. Most of them were aiming for a university degree, usually in the typical fields of business administration, law or medicine. They all seemed to have a plan, except me. I just knew that immediately studying was out of the question for me, because I wanted to work and earn money. Through my mother, I became aware of the apprenticeship in wholesale and foreign trade management at Marc O'Polo. She had completed her training at Marc O'Polo herself and worked at the company for many years. I still fondly remember our time at the campus in Stephanskirchen when I was a child—whether at the office, to visit my mum or as part of various holiday programmes. So Marc O'Polo has always felt very familiar to me.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST LEARNING IN YOUR TRAINING SO FAR?
What I have definitely learned is to ask questions, no matter how stupid or pointless they may seem. Even if you have to ask twice. Because only when you have really understood your tasks, when individual perspectives and expectations are clear—that’s when you can set priorities and get things done. After all, life is about learning. Constantly! It would be boring if you already knew everything, wouldn’t it?
CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT A CHALLENGE THAT YOU MASTERED?
One of my biggest challenges and successes so far has been planning, coordinating, and implementing my own projects. Among other things, I was able to design and create some sustainable goodies in cooperation with our art department. This was an exciting task that was great fun and where I learned a lot.
