ORGANICALLY GROWN FIBRES
Organic products contain fibres that are grown and obtained without synthetic pesticides, defoliants or chemical fertilisers and free from GMOs in accordance with the principles of organic farming and, in the case of wool, with particular consideration for animal welfare. Many of our products with organically grown fibres (organic) are already certified in accordance with international standards such as the Organic Content Standard (OCS) or Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS).
RESPONSIBLY SOURCED WOOL
Responsibly sourced wool (sheep's wool, mohair, cashmere) comes from certified farms that respect animal welfare, environmental protection and the sustainable use of farmland. Many wool products from Marc O'Polo are already certified in accordance with the Responsible Mohair Standard (RMS) or Responsible Wool Standard (RWS). From 2023, Marc O'Polo undertakes to use only certified mulesing-free or recycled sheep's wool. Furthermore, we support sustainable cashmere production through our collaboration with The Good Cashmere Standard® by AbTF.
MORE RESPONSIBLY SOURCED DOWN & FEATHERS
Down and feathers used by Marc O'Polo are certified in accordance with the well-known Responsible Down Standard (RDS). The down and feathers come from ducks and are a waste product of meat processing and have therefore found further use in the clothing industry. They are sourced exclusively from plucking after slaughter, which means they are not plucked from live animals and it is checked that the animals are not force-fed in advance. The supply chain is inspected by independent third parties.

Sustainable regenerated fibres

Marc O'Polo uses cellulose regenerated fibres (viscose, lyocell, modal) from fibre manufacturers who have achieved at least 80% of the maximum possible score ("Green Shirt" status) in the Canopy Hot Button Ranking. Canopy is a non-profit organisation committed to protecting old and endangered forests worldwide. The Hot Button Ranking is an analysis tool for sourcing cellulose regenerated fibres. It allows us to ensure that we source fibres from producers who use wood from responsible forestry. As a result, we use the following brand fibres:
LENZING™ ECOVERO™ VISCOSE and TENCEL™ Modal
LENZING™ ECOVERO™ VISCOSE and TENCEL™ Modal are produced via a process that adheres to high environmental standards. The wood pulp used in their production comes from certified and controlled wood sources.
TENCEL™ Lyocell
TENCEL™ lyocell is a industrially produced cellulose regenerated fibre from natural wood pulp that comes from trees from sustainable forestry. For the lyocell fibre TENCEL™ with REFIBRA™ technology, pulp from pre-consumer cotton waste is also used – an important contribution towards textile recycling. The manufacture of TENCEL™ lyocell takes place in a closed loop and is especially environmentally friendly.
RECYCLED MATERIALS
Fibres from recycled material save natural resources. Marc O'Polo uses recycled wool and cashmere, recycled polyamide, recycled cotton fibres mainly from pre-consumer material and recycled polyester fibres, which are primarily sourced from recycled PET bottles. Many of our products made with recycled materials are certified in accordance with the Recycled Claim Standard (RCS).

What we avoid

For many years, we have avoided using real fur of any kind. To reinforce this position, Marc O'Polo has made a binding commitment with the FUR FREE Alliance to renounce fur. We also avoid using angora wool, conventionally sourced mohair and all types of exotic leather.
