Verena – Group Manager HR Services

I had been interested in Marc O’Polo since 2009. However, at that time I was still working in St. Tropez and found it hard to separate myself from my international life. Nevertheless, I kept an eye on the career site over the years, and then suddenly it was there, my perfect job. As an HR Business Partner, I was allowed to advise managers from France to China and to act as a valuable interlocutor. I also wanted to get out of the city and finally realize my dream of living by a lake with a mountain view. That, too, came true when I started working at Marc O'Polo.

My Talent Journey started as an HR Business Partner for Eastern Europe and expanded from there. Thanks to a parental leave replacement, I got the great opportunity to take over the position as Group Manager HR Services on an interim basis. At first, I tried to follow in the footsteps of my predecessor, but today I know that it is much more authentic to establish your own management style. Since then, I have been able to make a lot of things happen.

International expansion, successful onboarding and working with new managers are among my highlights. One of the biggest challenges was organising and managing short-time work in our international locations during the first lockdown, and I’m particularly pleased that I was identified as a talent during this time and allowed to participate in ‘Potential Day’. Besides taking an international view in day-to-day business, I attach great importance to strategic projects such as working on HR internationalisation and talent management. The latter is a true passion project, and I have personally supported two members of my team in their development. After almost three years, I will continue my dream role as Group Manager in HR Development this autumn.

I was able to take these career steps not only because of my team, but also because of the corporate culture at Marc O’Polo—that incomparable spirit characterised by a strong sense of cohesion and family-like togetherness. I am grateful for all the warm, helpful and open colleagues, and the many dialogues with great managers. After all, you can only perform well when you feel truly at ease.

To continue the strategic focus on further internationalisation, I need people who want to accompany me passionately on this path—individuals full of openness, trust and cooperation. I appreciate a solution-oriented way of working and a hands-on mentality, and I offer my employees a lot of freedom, paying attention to the work-life balance in my team. In return, however, I also want us to go the “extra mile” together when it counts. Because every talent journey is a shared journey, full of challenges and success.
