A visit to MARC O’POLO’s Hong Kong Office. The two students Marlene and Bianca had the possibilty to visit our Sourcing Office in Hong Kong for one day. Read the following Story to discover more about their stay and the experiences they made. How it came about. My name is Marlene and I was an intern at the Product Management Licences department in Spring 2016 for five months. During my time at MARC O’POLO headquarters in Stephanskirchen I have experienced the varied tasks from the strategic planning to the controlling of the licensing department. Due to the collaboration with various other departments I gained a very good insight into the general business processes. After my internship I went to Hong Kong for a semester abroad and took the opportunity to visit the sourcing office of MARC O’POLO in town. My Name is Bianca and as of Spring 2017 I will do an 6-months-internship at the „Buying Retail“ department. I study International Fashion Retail and have also been doing a semester abroad in Hong Kong, where I met Marlene. Although my internship did not even begin, I was offered the opportunity to visit the sourcing office of MARC O’POLO in Hong Kong. The visit. After a very warm welcome we were taken on a little tour around the office and introduced to all employees. Afterwards the Head of Buying & Production Fine Knit gave us a detailed introduction into all processes from the first design to quality development up to the finale product release. Furthermore we met executives from other departments as well as the General Manager of the office. We learned more about the expansion of MARC O’POLO in China and the chinese customer as well as the criteria for the selection of suppliers. During lunch we also had the opportunity to talk to the executives about personal experiences, work and life in Hong Kong and the cultural differences. What we liked most. Right from the start we noticed the friendly team spirit. The corporate values in the Hong Kong office are internalized and lived by the employees in the same way the staff at headquarters in Stephanskirchen does. It is fascinating to feel the dedication and know-how of the employees and to learn how they use the location’s advantages. It was also interesting to see how the processes are connected with those of the headquarters. What we liked most is that we did not only gain a theoretical but also a practical insight into the tasks at the sourcing office. The exciting day at the Hong Kong office will be a memorable experience for both of us. We would also like to thank everyone at the office for their time and effort!
